More About Us…
Hi! We formed Johnny Sapphire in San Diego, CA in 2023. Many local musicians and artists have helped bring it to life; exploring, collaborating, and empowering community through self-expression.
Key influences in the music we write and play are Indie Pop, Rock, Post Punk, Dance, and Prog Soul along with classic roots styles ranging from Americana to Reggae and Latin. We have as much fun at our live shows as our audiences do, incorporating contemporary pop covers with our dance-fusion original music. Yes, vamping on newer dance pop is a guilty pleasure! We cover artists like Dua Lipa, Sabrina Carpenter, Lizzo, MGMT, Bruno Mars, SZA, The Weeknd, and more.
Our first release, New Dreams, was a collab with The Sea Monks and was a 2024 San Diego Music Award Nominee for Best Americana Album. Hot Blue Dot, was our first full-band album released in May 2025 as an homage to Yacht Rock. We started releasing some singles in Fall 2025, and our third album, CITY, is due Summer 2026 and will showcase our indie-dance-fusion sound exploring the beauty in the gritty reality of city life.
Johnny Sapphire is a hub for a community of like-hearted creators in various mediums. We reinforce the power of diversity, are open-minded, disciplined, and responsible in the pursuit of self-expression. Sometimes our creativity is structured and disciplined, sometimes simple and elegant, and sometimes organic/ improvised and flawed. All are welcome and celebrated!!
